What Is Body-Based Healing (and Why It’s the Hill I’ll Die On)

Wellness

You do not need another five-step plan for regulating your emotions or list of mindset hacks.

You need to get out of your head and back into your body.

And no, that doesn’t mean taking bubble baths and lighting a sage bundle once a month.

Let me break it down.

Your Mind Can Only Get You So Far

Most of us were taught to think our way through everything.

Make a list. Analyze the trigger. Do the pros and cons list. Come up with a strategy. Call your therapist. Google it.

And look, I’m here for insight.

But when it becomes the only way you try to feel better?

That’s when the loop starts… You have awareness. You name your patterns. You say all the right things. You know what you want to do instead.

And still… You feel stuck.

You’re snapping at your partner or apologizing for having a need. You’re spinning that you’re not doing it (whatever it is) good enough. You’re shutting down instead of saying what you’re thinking.

And then you’re beating yourself up about why you haven’t figured this shit out yet.

It’s not a mindset issue.

It’s your body holding on to something your brain can’t override no matter how much awareness you gather up.

What Is Body-Based Healing?

Body-based healing is letting your body, not your thoughts, be the starting point.

It’s learning to actually be with the stuff that used to take you out… grief, overwhelm, anger, fear of not being accepted…

It’s breathwork instead of busywork (like rage cleaning your kitchen).

It’s shaking out the freeze to some T Swizzle instead of shaming yourself for procrastinating.

It’s learning what safety feels like, not just what it sounded like in that Brene Brown book you read.

It’s not about being calm all the time. It’s having the ability to stay with yourself no matter what is going on.

This Is the Hill I’ll Die On Because It Works

You can read every trauma book on the market…  and still want to puke every time you try to set a boundary.

You can say “this isn’t that big of a deal” all you want…

… and still feel like you’re 7 years old and about to get in trouble every time someone’s upset with you.

You can talk therapy for a decade but still feel like you’re living in groundhogs day.

That’s not because you’re doing anything wrong. It’s because your body is running the show. Not your mind.

Until you work with it… not against it… you’ll keep looping.

And I have yet to meet a woman, myself included, who loves the feeling of being stuck in her loops.

What Does It Actually Look Like?

So maybe you’re thinking: Okay cool, I get it… but what the hell does “getting into your body” actually mean?

You don’t need a silent retreat in the mountains or a four-hour window without your kids to begin this work.

You just need a moment… one moment… where you choose to feel something rather than fix it.

Start there. Start by asking yourself:

“What am I feeling… not just emotionally, but physically?”

Where’s the tension? The heat? The numbness? The clench? The flutter?

And instead of running from it or naming it as a problem or diagnosing it… can you just be with it?

It’s that simple. And that holy. And yeah, sometimes that uncomfortable.

But it’s also the place your power lives.

So if you’re looking for how to begin:

  • Put your hand on your chest. Take a slow breath. Ask, “How are we doing, really?”
  • Wiggle your fingers. Stomp your feet. Remind your system: We’re here. We’re safe.
  • Let a sound move through you… a sigh, a hum, a groan. Let your body speak.
  • Lay on the floor. Not to collapse but to reconnect. To land. To feel held.
  • Cry without needing to explain it. Laugh without justifying it.

Let the release be enough.

You don’t need a guru. You don’t need a protocol.

You just need to be willing to stay. With you…  when it would be easier to leave.

That’s body-based healing.

And it starts here.

Right now.
